That may sound surprising. After all, black was the classic Poodle colour for decades. But that is exactly why it has become increasingly rare to find breeding lines dedicated to preserving a deep, rich and stable black coat.

Over the years, many black Poodles have been bred with red, brown and other coloured dogs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that when the goal is to produce those colours. But if your goal is a truly deep black coat that keeps its richness throughout the dog's life, the genetics become much more complicated.

Black is no longer the fashionable colour. Today, brighter colours attract more attention and are often more attractive from a commercial point of view.

As for us... we simply love our little pieces of charcoal.
