Black toy poodles

 The black toy poodle is the classic of all time. The original one. The one that existed before we started inventing “trendy” colors.

And, interestingly… now it’s one of the hardest to find well bred. Because black, although it may seem simple, is unforgiving. A good black poodle is not just “black.” It must be deep, uniform, and glossy, without dull tones, without that brownish reflection that appears when genetics start doing their thing. And here’s the interesting part: black is one of the oldest poodle colors… but also one of the most “overused.”

For years, it has been used as a base to improve other colors. The result: many blacks today are not truly high-quality blacks, but rather “diluted” versions after generations of mixing to achieve reds, chocolates, or other variations. So yes: finding a good black today is much more difficult than it seems.

In our kennel, we work with only a few lines, but very carefully selected, paying special attention to:

— true black purity (real black, not “almost black”)
— coat quality and density
— true toy size
— and a balanced temperament, because elegance is not only about appearance

Because a good black poodle doesn’t need to attract attention. It simply enters… and you notice.

Black, moreover, is the color that shows everything best: structure, expression, movement. There are no “color tricks” to hide anything. What you see is what you get.
